On the final night of the 2012 USL PRO regular season the Rochester Rhinos secured the number two seed in the USL PRO playoffs, and they will host one of the two USL PRO semi-final matches on Friday, August 31st at 7:35PM in Sahlen’s Stadium.

The Richmond Kickers were in Antigua on Sunday night to play their second match against the Barracuda in three days.  David Bulow’s goal gave the Kickers a 1:0 lead over the Barracuda on Friday night and moved them into second place in the USL PRO table.  The Rochester Rhinos defeated the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 1:0 on a late goal from Andrew Hoxie to return the Rhinos to second place on Saturday night, but Richmond could have secured second place with a win on Sunday night.  A Chris Agorsor goal in stoppage time was not enough for Richmond as Antigua won their season finale 2:1 behind a first minute strike from Quinton Griffin and a first half goal from Randolph Burton.

The Charleston Battery and Richmond Kickers finished level on 38 points in the table.  Charleston finished in third place on goal differential leaving Richmond in fourth place.

Wilmington, Charlotte, and the City Islanders all entered Sunday night with a chance to capture the final two playoff spots for the 2012 post-season tournament.  Charlotte hosted Wilmington in the second half of a home-and-home, back-to-back series.  The match had twice been postponed due to inclement weather.  Corey Hertzog gave the Hammerheads a 1:0 lead at the half with his 29th minute strike before Darren Toby tied the score for Charlotte in the 58th minute.  Substitute Steven Perry found the winner for Wilmington in the 77th minute to give them the three points and leave them on 37 points.

In Los Angeles, the City Islanders defeated the LA Blues 1:0 in Titan Stadium to also finish on 37 points.  Yann Ekra scored the goal that sent Harrisburg into the playoffs in the 66th minute off of an assist from Lucky Mkosana.  Nick Noble kept the clean sheet in goal for the City Islanders.

Wilmington took four of six points from the City Islanders during the regular season so they finish in fifth place while Harrisburg finished in sixth place.  Charlotte was eliminated from the playoffs on the final day of the season for the second consecutive year.

The 2012 USL PRO playoffs begin on Saturday, August 25th.  The Charleston Battery will host the City Islanders in Blackbaud Stadium at 7:30PM live on UNATION at www.uslnation.com.  The Richmond Kickers will host Wilmington at 7PM in City Stadium.

Orlando City won the USL PRO regular season title and will host the lowest remaining seed in the tournament on Saturday, September 1st while the Rhinos will host the highest remaining seed on Friday, August 31st at 7:35PM.  Season ticket holders can use “Wild Card B” for the playoff match.  Tickets for the playoff match went on sale to the general public at 10AM on Monday, August 20th.  They are available by visiting the Rhinos box office, calling (585)454-KICK, visiting rhinossoccer.com, or visiting any TicketMaster location.
