ROBERTS NAMED TO USL PRO TEAM OF THE WEEK

United Soccer Leagues announced the USL PRO Team of the Week for Week 13 of the 2011 season today, honoring Orlando City goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo as Player of the Week after he recorded a pair of shutouts that included an eight-save performance that keyed the Lions’ 1-0 victory against the Rochester Rhinos on Sunday night.

Gallardo also recorded a shutout as the Lions drew 0-0 with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Friday night, but was outstanding against the Rhinos. After fellow Team of the Week member Jamie Watson gave the Lions the lead, Gallardo made crucial saves on Kendall Jagdeosingh and Tony Donatelli in the clash between the two division leaders in USL PRO.

Rochester centre back Troy Roberts was named to the team of the week based on his performance anchoring the Rhinos back four against the USL PRO’s top two teams last weekend.  Roberts held the league’s two leading scorers, City’s Maxwell Griffin (9 goals) and Richmond’s Matthew Delicate (7 goals, 3 assists), scoreless as the Rhinos defeated Richmond 2-1 on Friday and lost to Orlando City 1-0 on Sunday.  Rochester leads the USL PRO in goals conceded and are 4-1-0 with two goals conceded and three shutouts in their last five matches.  Troy Roberts was selected to the USD2 first XI in 2010.  He appeared in more MLS matches (Los Angeles Galaxy) before joining the Rhinos than any player in the team’s illustrious sixteen-year history.

The Harrisburg City Islanders led all teams with three players named to the Team of the Week after their 4-0 victory against the Charlotte Eagles on Saturday, with Andrew Welker and Sainey Touray earning back-to-back selections after scoring two goals apiece while Geoff Bloes was also named as the City Islanders’ defense recorded a shutout despite the absence of Dustin Bixler, lost for the season with a torn ACL.

Wilmington’s Chris Banks was also selected to the team after scoring a goal and adding two assists as the Hammerheads earned a 4-2 victory against the Los Angeles Blues, while Jhonny Arteaga’s two-goal performance against Antigua Barraduda FC in the USL PRO Game of the Week on FOX Soccer earned his selection to the team.
