(QUEENS, N.Y.) – First-half goals by Qwame Holder and Jhonny Arteaga gave F.C. New York its second win of the season and Paul Shaw’s first as interim head coach as it held off a second-half rally by the Rochester Rhinos for a 2-1 victory on Monday afternoon at Belson Stadium.

After both sides had chances to take the lead, Holder scored his first goal of the season in the 29th minute to give New York the lead. Then New York was awarded a penalty in first-half stoppage time after T.J. Gore was penalized for a handball in the penalty area. Arteaga stepped up and doubled his side’s lead, again his first of the season.Rochester will continue with a pair of road games at Antigua this weekend.

Rochester pushed hard to get back into the game in the second half and were thrown a lifeline in the 57th minute when 2010 USL Premier Development League All-League selection Frank Alesci scored his first goal for the club to halve the deficit. The Rhinos, however, were unable to find an equalizer and lost their fourth game of the season, all of which have come on the road.

The Rhinos will be on the road next weekend when they play a pair on Friday and Sunday night at Antigua.
